I was asked to write a blog about how to avoid getting head lice this holiday season. So here are my top tips on how to avoid the dreaded head louse.

#1. If you have kids in school,I suggest that you hang a bag on their coat hook and instruct them to put their coats and hats in it. This way lice can not crawl from one coat to antoher.

#2. Take a peak once a week. With so many well wishers and holiday guests, you are sure to get more hugs than usual. It makes good sense to check for lice over the next two to three weeks so you can catch it early and stop the spread.

#3 Don't be shy to share the news. If you find lice, you must tell everyone you have been in contact with. It's only fair to notify a lice occurrence so others can check their family too. Lice are not a bad thing. They are a human condition that cause stress. Keeping it private only perpetuates the stigma and the stress.

#4. If you choose to use a pesticide treatment for your lice issue. Please use it responsibly. Don't over-use or abuse it. By this I mean if it does not work the first two times as directed, do not use a a third, fourth or fifth time. Don't leave it on longer than recommended. If a failure occurs, switch to a pesticide free alternative or better yet, don't use them to begin with. There are other options.

#5. Don't panic and don't blame. Get the Facts of Lice and get it over with. Too much time is waisted on not doing what is necessary to effectively treat head lice. My best advice is to stop listening to old wives tales and go to a source that knows how to effectively treat this problem. An good lice comb is your best Friend and their are peptide free solutions and services available.

Ok I have one more. STOP relying on information that you find on web sites or on line. Everyone wants to sell you something and there are 100+ ways to do it on line. Find a good company and a reliable source of information and stick to it. Unfortunately doctors and pharmacies don't have it. They will tell you and sell you what they have been told to and in many cases this is a pesticide and an out of date remedy. It probably comes with a Lousy nit comb too. So when you want lice gone visit lice squad.com or check out the NPA. Credible advice is available.
